ADVICE: Tips & Tricks to Drink More Water

You probably know that if you want to keep a healthy body and mind, you should drink enough water. Daily your body needs approximately 2.8 liters of fluid. You get about a liter from your food and about 300 milliliters is created in several processes in the body. The remaining 1.5 to 2 liters a day you have to drink yourself, and that’s not always an easy task.

Always take a bottle of water with you

Carry a bottle of water with you at all times and/or keep a carafe of water on your desk at work. If you have water standing next to you, you probably will unconsciously drink more water throughout the day.

Add fruit

With fresh fruit and herbs you can make yourself a nice drink which is a lot healthier than fruit juice or soda. Simply add some sliced fruit and/or herbs of your choice to a carafe of water. Place the carafe in the fridge and try to drink it completely the same day.

Give your water more taste with for example strawberries & basil leaves, lemon, cucumber & lemon, mint & lime, watermelon & sprig of mint, or slices of citrus fruits.

Make it a habit

Sometimes you just need to force yourself to drink more water. Slowly but surely, you will get used to it and drinking water constantly throughout the day will become a second nature to you. Sounds legit, but how to make it a habit? Always ensure you have water next to you on your desk and/or you have a water bottle with you. Another tip is to drink a glass of water 30 minutes for every meal.

Drink more tea

Maybe it will become boring to drink water the whole day. A solution is to drink more tea (but only tea without sugar and milk), because that’s also fluid.

Set an alarm

Do you still forget to take your water bottle with you or do you just forget to drink water throughout the day. It sounds weird, but it can help to set an alarm at certain times, for example, on your phone, which reminds you that it is time for a glass of water. There are also apps that warn you and you can track your water intake, such as Waterlogged and Water Your Body.

Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up

When you just woke up, your mouth will be dry. Instead of drinking coffee, drink a cold, refreshing glass of water first.
