Create a daily work schedule
As tempting as it may be, do not sleep late. Get up like you still have to go to the office. Set an alarm at the usual time, get dressed for the day and have a good breakfast. This way you don’t lose time and following your usual workschedule will keep you focused on the tasks you need to accomplish that day.
If you’re not an entrepeneur, but you are working for a company, try to set well-defined work hours to set boundaries on your personal time. If you do not create boundaries, you’ll be sucked into being available 24 hours a day.
Do not get distracted by chores
Because you’re working from home it may be tempting to clean your house, do the dishes or tidy your working space. Don’t do chores while your working at home. Of course you can do chores when you’re finished with working by your daily work schedule, but don’t do chores while you’re waiting for a phone call or an e-mail. Before you know it, you’re working day is almost over. Stick to your work schedule and don’t get distracted by personal things. After all, you’re working. When you’re at the office you also can’t do chores.
Set aside a specific workspace
Create your own workspace if you want to avoid getting distracted. Working from your bed or couch is a recipe for distraction. Always work with your laptop on a table while you’re sitting on a good chair. Don’t watch television while you’re working. And if you have children or roommates, explain them that they can’t disturb you while you’re working.
Do not wear your pyjamas
It’s tempting to wear pyjamas when you’re working from home. You can wear whatever you like! But like we said, it’s also tempting to work while lying on your bed. If you want to use your workday optimally, it is better to wear working clothes. This way you will not forget that you actually are at home to work. In addition, clothes can affect how you feel. Create a ‘work uniform’ that will make you feel amazing. This will affect your performances.
You must be well-organized to work from home. Besides that you should have time management skills and be disciplined. If you’re thinking about becoming an entrepeneur, be honest with yourself before you take the leap. Think hard whether you are able to keep yourself to the foregoing rules.
